Mini-Edition: Workshop, Notes, & Simple Pleasures

pottern.substack.com

Greetings readers & writers,

A full issue will come later this month (as will our next Book Marketing Now issue with author illustrator Jarrett Lerner!) but in the meantime, here’s a hodgepodge of reminders, updates, and inspirations.

Upcoming Workshop:

Writing Like a Parent, Parenting Like a Writer

I’m thrilled to have found a new home for my writing/parenting workshop. I hope you’ll join me in exploring how other writers and artists have dealt with balancing these dual identities, and talk about our own challenges as parenting writers/writing parents.

May 7th & 21st | 1 - 2 PM Eastern | Online | Register here

It can be hard to balance book babies with actual babies. How do creatives find the time and mental energy to continue artistic pursuits when parenting demands so much of both? How do we hold space in our lives for these dual identities of “writer” and “parent”? Through writing exercises and discussion, we’ll brainstorm fresh approaches to time management, staying inspired, re-aligning expectations, and being artistic role models for our kids.

Substack Notes

Notes is Substack’s swing at filling the social media hole left by Twitter slowly imploding. I’ve been experimenting with it as a place to reach new readers, share quotes, ask questions, do quick recommendations, that sort of thing.

My favorite feature is being able to quote/”restack” your favorite parts of my (or others’) newsletters. Just try highlighting a favorite line and you’ll be given the option to share the quote.

Want to get in on the action? Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber, you’ll automatically see my notes. Come say hi and feel free to like, reply, or share them around!
